President of Laos Ready to Strengthen Ties under PM Hun Manet’s Leadership

PHNOM PENH: Secretary-General of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President of Laos, Thongloun Sisoulith, is confident in Cambodia’s next government mandate led by future Prime Minister Hun Manet. During a virtual meeting with current Prime Minister Hun Sen on August 8, the Laotian president expressed his congratulations and anticipation in working with the Prime Minister’s successor.

In a press release issued on August 8, the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) stated, "His Excellency the Secretary General expressed his strong belief in and full support of the Royal Government of the seventh mandate to continue to build and develop Cambodia. [Laos is committed to] further progress and strengthening the good relations between the ruling parties and the people of the two countries."

CPP President Hun Sen thanked President Thongloun Sisoulith for his warm wishes and vote of confidence, saying that it reflects the strong fraternity and solidarity in the long-term strategic partnership between the two countries.

Future Prime Minister Hun Manet was officially appointed by the King as the next prime minister yesterday. He is now in the process of forming a council of ministers and appointing officials in what is expected to be a large turnover of power to the next generation. Prime Minister Hun Sen announced his resignation just three days after his party secured a landslide victory in the July 23 election. He said that the move is meant to ensure the peace and stability of the nation.
